Acrylic Paintings of Boston : "Bostonscapes" is a four page showcase with fifty eight paintings of Boston.

Florida Paintings : A presentation of fourteen Florida paintings. Included are Florida landscapes, marine paintings and two Jupiter Lighthouse paintings. Palm Beach, Orlando and Jupiter Florida are primary subjects. The paintings were accomplished from many visits; searching for places and spaces to best reflect a painted experience of Florida. These works emerged from the mind's inner eye. The making process is from the inside out, rather than the outside in. After exploring an inner reality, it is given substance in the form of a painting - making a new reality for all to see.

Naturescapes : These Naturescapes are concentrated spaces in nature. Places and spaces, within the landscape, that have the most energy in that they become the meditative and magical point of the greater environment or landscape. A variety of acrylic paintings from nature featuring landscapes of Maine and New Hampshire. Waterfalls, water lilies, flume trails, fish ponds and more.

Variety Page : A variety of acrylic paintings and prints featuring various summer experiences. Outdoor Restaurants, Aerial of a Giant Twister Game, A Ferris Wheel, Flower Shops, A Parade, Hot Air Balloons, Aerial of Multiple Picnics and more.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

These works are illuminations made with multiple translucent layers of acrylic paint. They are compressed recollections of the soul. The brilliant colors are not natural but spiritual. These varied works present the hope and yearning in living. To me, making a painting is a meditation. It is a way of becoming closer to something greater than myself.

WHAT IS AN ACRYLIC PAINTING?

While oils are an opaque oil based medium, acrylics are translucent and water based. I discovered that the acrylic could still be translucent, no matter how dense the paint was applied. This means you can still see through it - layer after layer of color. Instead of blending and modeling as with oils, I realized that glazing was the key to acrylic as well as its greatest strength. It would have been possible to attempt this technique with oils but the drying time is longer and varnish is used for glazing. The use of varnish would lead to cracking in time. Acrylic was more practical, flexible and immediate; it would not crack.

Modeling and blending with acrylic merely mimicks oil painting. I wanted this acrylic paint to produce an entirely different way of making a painting. I began experimenting with mixed color glazes and glazed over shapes that were more opaque. The colors, shapes and glazes took on a life of their own and generated new ways of conveying form and spirit. I was instructed by what was happening before me.

Eventually, the paintings developed a subtle luminosity. To enhance this, a different type of gesso was necessary. I was taught that the chalky type of gesso that most artists use was best. The colors had to “sink in” to this gesso. Why is this so, I asked myself. With acrylic, it only tended to dull the color, keeping it from displaying its own purity. Instead, I formulated my own gesso that is luminous and extremely white. The color floats yet anchors to it. This luminous gesso, underneath, yields an inner light to the glazes above. Over time, with this technique, it became possible to produce colors and color tones that could not be mixed. It was magic!

What is a Giclée print?

Giclée (pronounced: jhee-clay), is taken from the French word meaning "to spray". The term was adopted in the formulation of digital printing because of the super fine droplets that are sprayed from the print heads. My own definition would be an extremely refined digital print. I produce my own prints on a wide format professional printer that implements the Giclée technique.
